How To Transfer or Share Data on MTN Nigeria Network

First, you cannot transfer MTN data unless you have a data plan of 250MB and above, and the cheapest data plan that qualifies you for MTN data transfer is the 250MB data plan for N1300 which gives you a data allowance of 325MB for 30 days. To subscribe send 109 to 131 or dial *109#

The 100MB data plan which costs N1000 and gives you a data allowance of 250MB for 30 days won’t allow you transfer data.

To start, you will have to activate any MTN data plan (from 250MB and above, excluding MTN Day, Night, Weekend, and Time-based plans), then dial *131*2*1# or text REG to 131 to register for MTN Data Share. You will receive a unique security PIN. You are required to change the system generated PIN to a new PIN you can easily remember by dialling *131*2*5# or by texting Change OLD_PIN NEW_PIN NEW_PIN to 131 e.g. Change 0000 1234 to 131.

Alternatively, change your pin by doing the following:

1. Dial *131*2#
2. Reply with 5 to change PIN.
3. Enter 0000 as old PIN (i.e. default pin) and then enter new PIN e.g. 1234.
4. You will receive a message from MTN that your PIN change has been effected.

After changing the PIN, you are required to add beneficiaries to your MTN Shared Data Bundle account via USSD menu, that is by dialing *131*2*3# or by texting Add to 131. You can add up to 5 beneficiaries. Once you have added your beneficiaries, you (the sponsor) will be able to share your available data bundle amongst the added beneficiaries by sending the keyword Share to 131 or simply dialing the USSD code *131*2*4#.

LOW TUITION OPPORTUNITIES FOR OVERSEAS EDUCATION

by Idris O. Aliu

Lately the cost of overseas education in the often sought after places like the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and even China has skyrocketed so much more that it has gone beyond the means of many people who fit into the middle class stratum of society, thus more and more people are opting to look at other places as an alternative.

One of such countries in Europe where tuition fees are very low is Georgia. International students choose Georgia because it's one of the most stimulating countries in the world. Also, students are usually allowed to work and study there.

Tuition fees in Georgian universities are extremely low and affordable in comparison with other European universities. Although tuition fee for undergraduate programs could range from $2000 to $4000 and $4000 for postgraduate programs, on the average tuition fees in Goergian universities are amongst the lowest in Europe ranging from 500 euros to 1500 euros per academic year

Scholarships are also usually awarded to students, but since they are few, they are usually competitive.

Below is a list of top universities in Georgia:

Ø University of Georgia
Ø International Black Sea University
Ø Free University Of Tbilisi
Ø Caucasus University
Ø Geogian American University
Ø Georgian Institute Of Public Affairs.
Ø Kutaisi University.
Ø Gori University.
Ø Tbilisi State Medical University.

Go to Google and dig out more on higher education in Georgia or dig out information on how to process admission into the respective schools, in addition to other details.

Belgium is another country with low tuition fees although the cost of living in Belgium is a bit high when compared with other European countries. It is estimated at about 800 euros per month which should cover the cost of accommodation, food, healthcare, public transport, telephone and leisure.

Top Universities in Belgium:

Ø Boston University
Ø University of Kent
Ø Brussels Schools Of International Studies
Ø University Of Antwerp
Ø The Open University

The cost of studying in Russia is also cheaper than that of most other countries in Europe. On top of that, the cost of living in Russia is also one of the lowest in Europe. It is estimated at $500 which covers the cost of accommodation, food, books etc.

Tuition fees are low and quite affordable in Russia. Fees for medicine, engineering and architecture range from $3500 to $5000, while other courses start from $1500 to $3000.

Note: To study in Russia, international students will be expected to undergo the Russian language training that usually last for one academic year and will cost about $1500.

Top Universities in Russia:

Ø Moscow state university
Ø St. Petersburg State University

But lately the cost of overseas education in Europe, North America, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and to some extent China is skyrocketing, so more and more people are opting to look at India as an alternative.

Students with a high school diploma or a university degree can apply to India's universities without having to pass any English language tests such as IELTS which are usually required by U.S. and European universities but after the admission, students are required to perform well to be able to graduate.

Many universities in India have a strict examination system. For example at the University of Delhi, the examinations are not set by the teachers but by the university system as a whole.

The quality of the education, lower tuition fees and living costs are major factors attracting students to India.

The average yearly tuition fee for overseas students at India's public universities is about 493.84 US Dollar, that's about N78,743.06 (approx. N79,000).

And the cost in private universities increases to around 1646.12 US Dollar (about N263,000) this is just a fraction of the costs seen in the US or Europe.
A typical US or UK university could cost a student around 16,461.20 US Dollar a year for tuition fee, that is approximately 2.6 million Naira!

Also total living costs, including accommodation, are also relatively cheaper in India, which is about $2,500 (roughly N400,000) a year.

Tuition fees in India vary depending on the major. The cost of living for the average international student in India is about 82.31 US Dollar (about N13,000) a month and there are always people to help clean-up and do the laundry for you.

So, no wonder why India has lately become the new hub for international students seeking top quality education at lower costs.

BET YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY PEOPLE ASK YOU TO LIKE OR PASS COMMENTS ON THEIR FACEBOOK POSTS!

If you're on Facebook; which you probably are, then you've likely seen posts containing strange stories or images popping up on your newsfeed asking you a question that requires you to think and comment or like them! These are the latest round of what you would want to call 'Like Bait' posts that have popped up on Facebook and other social media lately.

Someone posts a ficticious story or strange picture and adds something like, "Like this post in 5 seconds if you hate cancer, or ignore if you don't" to the Facebook post. These things have become so frequent that you can't go a day without someone asking you to pass a comment, which maybe as short as saying "Amen" or whatever! In most other cases, you are only required to like the posts!

But why? Why do these posts exist?

Well these posts exist mainly for material gains or with the intention of creating contents with viral reach on Facebook. When these people get a few thousand likes and comments, it creates a viral effect which lets their posts appear on the Facebook newsfeeds of so many other people, in fact on the walls or newsfeeds of a bunch of people they've never met or interacted with before!

Businesses and people (particularly marketers) who have seen it work on a personal level now capitalize on the trend to boost their own pages and brand exposure, it's copy-cat marketing - radio stations like to do this a lot.

Then there's really the dodgy ones, who utilize this method to create a page with a massive fanbase of which they can then sell the admin rights to the highest bidder to pocket some lump sum of money!

It's cheeky, but that's the way the Facebook algorithm works!

Next time be wise, think deep before you like or pass a comment on just about any Facebook post! When someone posts a strange picture of a child with some health defects, adds some words of prayer, and then asks you to say "Amen", it could just be a decoy to let you help him fill up his pockets with money! Be wise!

EASY WAYS TO SAVE MONEY AND MANAGE DATA ON ANDROID DEVICES

1. Reduce the number of applications and games on your Android device , keep only the frequently used or very useful ones...

2. Turn off your GPS settings except whenever necessary...
To do that, tap on 'Settings' then under 'Personal' tap on 'Location Access', then untick the box for 'Access to my location', then turn off 'GPS satellites'. (On Android 4.x Jellybean OS). You should only turn this on when you want to use your phone to navigate an area, most especially when you have to use Google Maps or similar apps on your phone...

3. Use only the data compressing browsers like Opera Beta, UC Browser Mini, Chrome Beta, Opera Mini, Chrome browser for Android... which you can download and install on Google Play Store or Mobo Market. Don't use the conventional data consuming browsers like Firefox for Android, Maxthon Browser, etc. To compress data on Opera Browser Beta (or Opera Beta) turn on "Off-Road Mode" after downloading and installing the browser.

Chrome browser offers proxy data compression through Google for Google Chrome on Android devices. One of the great features is its calculation and graph showing just how much data has been saved. Here’s what we got from Google, read on...

Data Compression Proxy
Faster, safer, and cheaper mobile web browsing with data compression
The latest Chrome browsers for Android and iOS can reduce cellular data usage and speed up mobile web browsing by using proxy servers hosted at Google to optimize website content. In our internal testing, this feature has been shown to reduce data usage by 50% and speed up page load times on cellular networks! To enable it, visit “Settings > Bandwidth Management > Reduce data usage” and toggle the option – easy as that.

4. Go to Play Store on your device and search for the following apps to help you minimize your data usage, enhance your battery life, and monitor your data:
i) Data Savings | Onavo Extend
ii) Onavo Count | Data Usage or 3G Watchdog
iii) Advance Task Manager - Killer by INFOLIFE LLC (Optional)

IMPORTANT!: You can use the 'Settings' on 'Advanced Task Manager - Killer' to kill background apps automatically without your manual input but this might let other apps (including Onavo Extend) work intermittently! So use it manually once in a while, you don't have to set the auto functions.

Although it is often better to use 'Advanced Task Manager - Killer' manually, you may prefer setting up the auto functions in order to save yourself some time, energy, and to help increase your device's memory (RAM space). To do this, tap on it's Settings icon represented by the three square dots at the top right hand corner of the screen and turn on all the 'Auto kills'. Setting up the automatic functions on Advanced Task Manager - Killer can help you minimize data usage and save you energy. It will also boost your battery life and continuously boost your device's memory (RAM) without any effort on your side. But remember doing so will make Advanced Task Manager - Killer make some of your apps work intermittently, so you might have to 'Force stop' it from the 'Settings' feature and then launch it back if need arises.

However, if you choose to use 'Advance Task Manager - Killer', remember that it is a task killer. A task killer is an app from which you can manually (or sometimes automatically) force other apps to quit, the hope being that the fewer apps you have running in the background, the better your Android's performance and battery life will be. Proponents of task killers are of the opinion that closing apps running in the background will get you improved performance and battery life, in addition to lesser data usage by the Android device– that’s the idea, anyway. However, opponents of task killers deduce that in reality task killers can reduce your performance and battery life.

This argument about whether task killers are effective or not rages all over the Internet: Android forums on the Internet are full of threads with constant bickering and conflicting anecdotal experience, making it difficult for most users to make sense of the situation.

Excerpts from Lifehacker do however suggest that using task killers on Android could be bad news for us because Android handles process management by default. Read on:

"In Android, processes and Applications are two different things. An app can stay "running" in the background without any processes eating up your phone's resources. Android keeps the app in its memory so it launches more quickly and returns to its prior state. When your phone runs out of memory, Android will automatically start killing tasks on its own, starting with ones that you haven't used in a while.

The problem is that Android uses RAM differently than, say, Windows. On Android, having your RAM nearly full is a good thing. It means that when you relaunch an app you've previously opened, the app launches quickly and returns to its previous state. So while Android actually uses RAM efficiently, most users see that their RAM is full and assume that's what's slowing down their phone. In reality, your CPU—which is only used by apps that are actually active—is almost always the bottleneck.
"

Thus, you may want to have a rethink about using a task killer like 'Advance Task Manager - Killer' or any other task killer.

As for 3G Watchdog and Onavo Count, test both of them to see which of them you prefer, or keep both of them if that's what you would want; but you may want to uninstall one of the two just to create room for some other app on your device.

NOTE: Onavo Extend relies on a server to compress your data, so your image/picture quality may somewhat or at times be reduced while browsing the Internet via their server. You can always use the 'Manage Apps' feature on your Android device to 'Force Stop' it whenever you want to, then 'Launch' it again at your own convenience!

Onavo Extend uses its servers to compress the data you request before it gets sent to you, so it is not ideal for large file downloads, as it will reduce your speed. In addition to this, some websites may not load properly, or at all, but this seems to happen in a limited number of cases. However, you can disable the app at any time if your download speed is too slow or you realize a website won't load. But don't forget to re-enable it when you are through. To disable the app, just open it and tap the button. You can also go to your device's Settings (i.e. System settings) and then use the 'Manage apps' feature to 'Force Stop' it. But don't forget to re-enable the app after you're done with your download or through with the website that had issues loading. To re-enable the app at anytime, simply open it by tapping on it and then grant it access for adding a VPN connection (for Onavo's servers).

Whenever Onavo Extend is active you will see a small key shape icon on top of your screen, if you don't see this icon it means the app isn't active, go back to the app and re-enable it. After installing Onavo Extend on your Android device, you will have to open the app and grant it access for adding a new VPN connection (for Onavo's servers).

Onavo Count can be downloaded and installed from http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:com.onavo.android.onavoid

3G Watchdog can be downloaded and installed from http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:net.rgruet.android.g3watchdog

Onavo Extend can be downloaded and installed from http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:com.onavo.android.onavoics

Advanced Task Manager can be downloaded and installed from http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:mobi.infolife.taskmanager

Or simply search for them on Play Store or Mobo Market (an alternative to Google Play Store for Android apps).
Mobo Market can be downloaded and installed from http://mobomarket.moborobo.com/m/android1/

Bingo! That's all for now!

ATM DEBIT CARDS NIGERIANS CAN USE ON THE INTERNET FOR WORLDWIDE PAYMENTS

Virtually all banks in Nigeria issue ATM debit cards but at the moment the GTBank Naira MasterCard, UBA Africard, Zenith Bank Mastercard Websurfer, and Zenith Bank Visa Prepaid Buxz cards are some of the most reliable payment cards you can use on the Internet for your online transactions here in Nigeria to make payments worldwide. The Fidelity Bank debit card which the bank offers to its customers who have at least a Savings Account with them is also reported to be a good online payment option.

GTBank will let you have a Naira MasterCard ATM debit card when you open an account with them (Current or Savings Account). You can start using the card for your international online transactions by going to any branch of the bank to activate the card for Internet banking, you will be able to use it for your online purchases and payments worldwide, anywhere you see the MasterCard logo on the Internet. Just go to any GTBank branch and ask to see the Customer Service people or the person in charge of card services. Tell them you want to apply for “Internet Banking” or want to be profiled for Internet Banking and would want to apply for a “Token”. A Token is a small security hardware like a key holder that generates a set of numbers which will enable secure transfers via the Internet banking platform. It generates a random password which will then be keyed in after the password to enable transfer. You can use the GTBank Naira MasterCard to order for products online or pay for services anywhere on the Internet wherever you see the MasterCard logo.

For now, let me concentrate on the easiest of them to get – the UBA Visa Prepaid card, called UBA Africard, issued by United Bank of Africa (UBA). The UBA Africard is one card you would want to consider and virtually the easiest to obtain. The UBA Visa Prepaid card (Africard) is a debit card variant denominated in Naira and is pre-funded and re-loadable. It is internationally accepted in all Visa acceptance points (ATM, PoS & Web). Card holders do not need to have an account with UBA in order to obtain this card, and the card can be obtained from any branch of UBA. The card is of two types; the personalized and the non-personalized types. I will advise you to go for the non-personalized type because you can instantly obtain it just immediately after applying for it.

All you need to apply for the UBA Africard is a valid form of identity, particularly a government-issued ID, which could be an international passport, driver's license or National Identity Card, or even the Voter’s Registration Card (in line with the new CBN directive).

You need a minimum of N500 (five hundred naira) to obtain this UBA Africard prepaid card, although in some cases you can get it even without paying a dime.

This card has a 10 digit number on it. This number serves as your account number. To fund the card, simple pay into the account number at the counter.

NOTE: Although the aforementioned cards are widely accepted online, you cannot use them to effect payment on some sites on the Internet. Some sites may reject them while some do not have provisions for accepting them. For example, Clickbank products cannot be procured using most Nigerian prepaid card. Most Clickbank products require a PayPal login before you can buy products on the site, so your Nigerian prepaid card will not be useful to you on www.clickbank.com. However, so many other sites, particularly the China based B2B sites like Aliexpress.com and DHgate.com will accept the card. You can also use these cards to make online payments for your web hosting service with Hostgator.com; domain name service with Namecheap.com or GoDaddy.com; autoresponder service with TrafficWave.net, Getresponse.com, Aweber.com. To cap it all, you can use these cards on many websites that accept the usual Visa and MasterCard. You can use them on websites like Amazon.com, Namecheap.com, Getresponse.com, Aweber.com, Aliexpress.com (to order PCs, tablets and other electronic gadgets from China), and DHgate.com (to purchase electronics, PCs, tablets, computer accessories, cell phones and accessories, jewelleries, handbags, clothes and so on from China) and Web4africa.net (to buy domain name and webhosting).

What is Naira MasterCard?
Naira MasterCard is a debit card denominated in Naira issued in partnership with MasterCard Inc. and banks like GTBank and FirstBank here in Nigeria. Naira Mastercard cardholders can use their cards to make payments online to procure products and services without having to drive through traffic to get to the bank nor join lengthy bank queues.

Banks like GTBank and FirstBank will let you have a Naira MasterCard ATM debit card when you open an account with them (Current or Savings account). Once this card is activated for Internet banking, you can use it for your online purchases and payments worldwide, anywhere you see the MasterCard logo on the Internet. You can use it to order for products online or pay for services. However, you have to activate it to start using it for online payments and purchases. To activate it, do the following (we will be using GTBank in this tutorial):

[1]. Go to any of their branches and ask to see the Customer Service people or the person in charge of card services. Tell them you want to apply for Internet Banking or want to be profiled for Internet Banking and would want to apply for a “Token”. A Token is a small security hardware like a key holder that generates a set of numbers which will enable secure transfers via the Internet banking platform. It generates a random password which will then be keyed in after the password to enable transfer. The use of Token is strongly recommended for the individual user. All customers that want to activate their Internet banking accounts are usually advised to request for a token to further secure their accounts from unauthorized transfers. The set of numbers generated should be entered when you are doing any transaction on these banks’ websites. Like I had earlier said, it is also required for the activation of your ATM card for online payments. The bank will debit N2,100 - N3,000 or so for the Token once you log into their site to activate it. You will get the Token device that very day (or they will ask you to come back for it another day) together with a PIN which you need to change in the process of activating your Internet Banking account on their site.

[2]. After getting your Token and Internet Banking details from the bank, go to their website e.g. www.gtbank.com to activate your ATM card for online payment. For you to know you are on a secure connection and not a cloned website ensure there is “https” is in your browser’s address bar when you login. Fraudsters and hackers can create phishing websites to deceive you into thinking you are on the real website, so always check to see if your spellings of their URL is correct and ensure that there is “https” in it whenever you are logged in, for example https://ibank.gtbank.com/ibank3/ . Now, click on "Login" under "Internet Banking" and then enter your Internet Banking account user details which should have been given to you in a sealed envelope at the bank or sent to your email address. Enter the login details and once inside your account, click on "Get Activation Code" button.

[3]. On the next page, follow the instructions provided and fill the form on the page. Select your card type (MasterCard) and enter the expiry date (which you will find on your ATM card e.g. 02/15 but enter the date without the slash ( /) sign e.g. 0215) and then press the little button on your Token. It should display some digits, type in those digits and click on the "Submit" button.

[4]. A code will be generated for you after clicking the Submit button. The generation of the code means your ATM card has been activated. Keep this online activation code away from anybody except yourself.

[5]. Your Naira MasterCard (ATM card) is now ready for making online payments anywhere you see the MasterCard secured logo on the Internet. The code generated will be required every time you want to make payment online with the card.

MAKING PAYMENTS WITH YOUR NAIRA MASTERCARD OR INTERSWITCH VERVE CARD
When making payments on any website that accepts these forms of Payment (i.e. either MasterCard or InterSwitch Verve), you will be required to fill in or enter your card details after clicking the "Order" or "Buy" button on the website:

• For ‘Card Type’ choose MasterCard or Verve.

• For ‘Card Holder's Name’, you are required to enter your name as it is written on your ATM card e.g. AJAYI HARUNA FEMI.

• For your ‘Card Number’ use the long number on top of your ATM card, which is commonly 16 digit on most debit cards.

• For ‘Expiry Date’ enter the date as it is on your card; for example 02/16, but remove the slash (/) sign.

• For your ‘CVV Number’ enter the three-digit security code at the back of your card, for example 435. CVV OR CVV2 means Card Verification Value.

• Confirm or complete the process and wholla that’s all!

HOW TO USE ONLINE FORUMS TO MAKE MONEY FROM INTERNET OR AFFILIATE MARKETING

Online forums are electronic boards on the internet. Individual users post messages, comments, questions and other forms of data on these boards from different parts of the world for people to see and meet minds together. Messages that appear on the boards are arranged in topics or categories. To be part of an online forum (also called internet forums), simply log onto their website and signup. Your e-mail address is usually required for you to signup and post messages. Visitors or non-members can only view the messages and comments; they cannot post their own messages or comments.

In other words an online forum is a virtual community of like-minded people, who meet from time to time to meet minds together, share ideas and opinions, discuss issues, ask and answer questions, and much more.

As an internet marketer the benefits of online forums to you are so many. Online forums provide the platform for you to market and promote your own products or affiliate products for FREE at no extra cost! They also provide the medium for you to make sales without having to meet people face-to-face. Better yet, all online forums are usually open 24 hours daily which gives you the flexibility to promote your internet identity or products at any particular point in time.

As a “Beginner internet’ Marketer” online forums give you the opportunity to sell or promote products and services without expending your hard earned money on advertisement. They also provide a platform for you to test peoples’ acceptability of your product or service.

Below you will find the strategies or tips of using online forums to make money without getting your fingers burnt.
• Tip 1 – Find at least 2 or 3 forums on your niche, particularly those with large membership base and high Page Ranks (PR) on search engines like Google; and sign up with them.

• Tip 2 – After signing up or registering with them, set up your signature line which is where you will put your name and links. You will need to make good use of your signature. You can place a link within the signature portion of your profile. Your signature gets shown in each post you make; hence if viewers of your post pick interest in what you have posted, they may click on your link to get to your site or blog, or affiliate website.

• Tip 3 – Now that you have joined a couple of forums or more, take your time to go through different posts. At the end of the whole thing you should be able to come up with some questions frequently asked by the forum members or some pressing problems facing some members of the forums.

• Tip 4 – Nothing sells like the solutions to the needs of group of people; so settle down to prepare sincere answers (solution) to these questions or problems, preferably in the form of a simple report or write-up. Make sure this report proffers solutions to their problems or adequately answers their questions. The report can be prepared on a Notepad file or MS word file or using the free editor Note Tab Light at http://www.notetab.com. Prepare the report while offline and save in a local directory on your computer or USB flash drive.

When you get back online fetch out the report from your flash drive or from the local directory where you had stored it on your computer to post it for FREE! Simply copy and paste it in the required fields and submit/post.

IMPORTANT! Instead of trying to make blatant sales on the forums, it would be better you sell back-end products inside the free reports which have to do with what people yearn for. You can also place your links or affiliate links in the free report, but don’t try spamming by placing more than a couple of your links in it. Make your report look a lot less “salesy”. However, if you are placing a link in the report cloak the URL using free cloaking and redirection services like http://www.tinyurl.com, http://www.snipurl.com, http://www.is.gd, http://www.budurl.com, http://bit.ly, http://www.linkbrander.com and http://goo.gl

• Tip 5 – Forum members usually see internet marketers as spammers and fraudsters until you prove yourself trustworthy. So, as a recommendation don’t try promoting or selling anything in any particular forum until you have made at least 20 posts. You need to gain the trust and respect of forum members before you start trying to sell products or services to them. If you don’t follow this simple rule you might end up not selling anything!

• Tip 6 – Another way you can gain the respect of forum members is to be more focused on posting comments and answers to their questions, instead of asking them questions. When you post questions instead of answers you are perceived as a novice. However, you can post questions in response to other questions to enable you find out more from them so that you will be able to design a solution which will really meet the questions. Forming the habit of posting answers to questions on forums will make the forum members see you as an expert instead of a novice. You also gain respect and good reputation; such that when you recommend a product or service (like an affiliate product you are promoting), they wouldn’t be suspicious about the offer.

• Tip 7 – it is also paramount that you visit these forums that you have joined a few times a week. Let the forum members see you as an active member and a valuable contributor. This will further enhance your status in the forums.

• Tip 8 – Make sure you read each forum rules and regulations before you start posting on it. Every forum has its own set of rules and regulations. Take a moment of your time to read them before you start posting. These rules and regulations are often posted as a sticky post at the uppermost top of the forum.

• Tip 9 – Protect your real identity on internet forums, except you feel like promoting your real identity. Protect your identity by signing up with pseudonyms instead of your real name.

• Tip 10 – Each forum has a set of rules. If broken, a ban may be placed on the erring member. When you are banned, don’t panic, simply open a new email address and sign up again with it using a new pseudonym.

DISCOVER HOW TO PROMOTE AFFILIATE PRODUCTS AND OTHER BUSINESSES THROUGH ONLINE GROUPS AND GET INCREDIBLE RESULTS FOR FREE

Online Groups, also called Email Groups, are Internet (online) forums where like-minded people can choose to participate in group discussions and meeting of minds via email, the web or both. And there is a permanent shared record of the work of the group.

Online Groups take the pain out of group email collaboration by giving a group an email address and inbox. A group has a feature that makes it possible for you to email everyone in the group with one email address (that is the group’s email address). Online groups are more like email messaging systems that enable you make group posts to get information to group members, although online groups also have other excellent features. The email messaging system built into a group can be used to send information to the members of the group via email. You can use a group to send an email out to the entire group, without having to send everyone an email separately. With a single click everybody gets a copy of your email and can reply from their email clients.

The beauty of using online groups for your promotion
Email dominates online communication. Almost every web user has an email address and inbox that they use all the time. If you are into affiliate products promotion or any other kind of business promotion, you can use an online group to send bulk emails to so many people to market your product(s) at no extra cost. You can create a Group and use it as an email list building system. But it is far much easier if you can join an already existing group in your niche which has a large membership base.

Becoming a member of a group in your niche will ensure you have a group of people to market to, from time to time. Business promotion with Groups allows you to get good response and immense results for free - no advertisement costs or overheads.

Where you can find groups to join on the internet
There are many places to find Groups to join on the internet. You can conduct a search for “online groups” on the internet via Search Engines like Google.com, Bing.com and Yahoo.com but the following sites are usually the best places to dig out quality Groups on the internet:

• Yahoo Groups, http://groups.yahoo.com
• Google Groups, http://groups.google.com
• Facebook Groups, http://facebook.com/groups
• Onlinegroups, http://www.onlinegroups.net
• Multiply Groups, http://multiply.com/search/groups
• Linkedin Groups, http://www.linkedin.com/directory/groups/
• World Groups, http://www.worldgroups.com
• Free Lists, http://www.freelists.org/
• Catalyst (official catalog of LISTSERVTM lists), http://www.lsoft.com/catalist.html
• Flickr, http://www.flickr.com/groups

When you visit any of the aforementioned sites, browse through their categories to search for groups or mailing lists of interest, and then join. The size of the group (mailing list) matters a lot. Try looking for groups with larger membership bases. To find large groups with no maximum limit of members, try conducting your search on mailing list hosting websites like Yahoo Groups, Google Groups, Facebook Groups, and LinkedIn Groups.

There’s no maximum limit of members in Yahoo groups, Google groups, and LinkedIn groups. In Yahoo groups there are also no maximum posts per day. Meaning that users can make unlimited posts; but in a case where one single member sends too many emails within an hour, that member will be tagged as a spammer and get an auto-responder message. That hourly limit is however unknown.

However, when considering groups to join, size isn’t really the only issue. It isn’t just the number of members that matters, the degree of member participation also matters. You need a large group with a high degree of engagement. Don’t forget to check whether the group is still very much active or not. To check, simply scroll down the homepage of the group (that has attracted your interest) to see if there are any recent postings to the group or not. The more recent postings you find in a group, the more active the group will be.

Finally, make sure you only join groups discussing topics related to the products or business you want to promote.

The secrets of promoting affiliate products and other business with online groups
Join large groups with a high degree of member participation. You need a large but active group with discussions centered on the niche you are interested in or the product you want to promote.

Join as many groups as you can. The more groups you join, the more members you can promote to. For a start join as many as 50 groups!

When you start getting results, you can join even more groups. It won’t be an uphill task if you join up to 500 groups or so in due course! You should have membership of several groups, which means different niches combined. Niches like making money, business opportunities, relationships and sex, love and dating, looking younger, and staying healthy tend to appeal to the general public. Groups centered on any of these niches would normally be very vibrant; hence marketing to people in these groups could get you quick results.

Set up a separate email ID for your campaigns as you will also be getting loads of promotional messages and all sort of other messages from the members of the groups you have joined, almost like every day. Don’t join any online group (or mailing list) with your usual email address unless you want to be bombarded with messages every now and then! Sign up for a new email account, which is what you should be using to join the groups (mailing lists) that interest you.

Opt for emails to be sent to you in abridged formats. This will help you save your email inbox space. In other words, this won’t take up too much of your inbox space.

To send ads or promotional emails to the members of the groups you have joined, send them in text format (not html) as most people prefer the text format and also many email systems cannot open html type emails.

Put this in your mind, your subject line is the most important part of every email you send! The subject line of your emails needs to be catchy. It needs to be the type that can catch the attention of your prospects even before they consider opening the mail. If your subject line can pique the curiousity of your prospects, they won’t resist reading more. If the subject line (or heading) of your promotional email grabs the attention of the prospect, you are halfway to a sale! The best way to create an attention grabbing subject line (or headline) is to try asking a question in the subject line. That usually gets people curious enough to click through. Here’s an example, “How Would You Like To Own Your Own Business Today?” I would also recommend you to capitalize the first letter in each word you have in your subject line, or perhaps the whole characters in the subject line. This tends to make your subject line (or headline) noticeable.

Group posts in an online group can be an effective way to get information to the group members but using the email messaging system built into a group can be far much more effective, because it sends the information to the members of the group via email. Remember, a group has a feature that makes it possible for you to email everyone in the group with just one email address (which is the group’s email address). You can save a groups’ email address into your email contacts and send an email out to the entire group easily, without having the need to keep track of everyone’s new addresses and adding new ones who have joined the group. Anyone in a group can email that address and the whole group gets a copy and can reply from their email clients or on the web. A typical Facebook group will have something like groupname@groups.facebook.com as a group email address; and a typical Google group will have something like groupname@googlegroups.com .

To send ads or promotional messages to each group, you would have to send emails manually to one group at a time; so, if you have joined 50 groups you would have to send a particular email 50 times. But there’s a simple way out: create a folder and put in it all the email addresses of the groups you have joined and when you want to send out a promotional email, just open the compose page and in the ‘send to’ field copy and paste all the email addresses. Write an attractive title for your message in the subject line (or subject field). Write the promotional email in the description box (compose field) which should contain your affiliate links if you are trying to promote an affiliate product, and then send. This gets your message to all the groups at one go, and simultaneously to everyone in the groups! This way, you will be able to get your promotional message to a large number of prospects without much effort.

As a recommendation, try typing your promotional messages while offline. Keep it short – this makes it easy for them to get what you are selling or promoting. People are so crunched for time these days, and they receive so many emails, that they won’t have all day to read your email if you make it long. It is also recommended that you avoid using too much hype! A little bit of hype is okay, but don’t go overboard. People are just tired of hypes. Too much hype will make whatever you are promoting sound ludicrous. You also need to be yourself and warm people up to you – give them a short paragraph about yourself and your experience with whatever you are selling; give them something and someone they can relate to, but remember to keep it short. Moreover, you should also try to keep out the typos – proof read your messages before you send them out. Yes, everyone makes an occasional mistake but too many typographical errors may get prospects running away from you. Nobody wants to buy from, or do business with a dumb person! Don’t also forget the importance of your subject line (headline). Remember, your subject line is the single most important part! It needs to pique the curiousity of your prospects, so that they won’t resist clicking through to read more.

After typing your message offline and going through it to correct the typos, save it in a local directory on your computer or in a flash drive. Copy and paste it when you get back online.

Put the prospect in a buying frame of mind, not to try and sell to them in the ad. Your message should put the prospect in a buying mood and have them click on your link to the sales page, and let the sales page do the selling. The guideline that will increase your conversion rates is to point out the pains the prospects must have incurred or may incur, and then persuade him or her with the gains or pleasure (benefits) they stand to get from your product. When stating the “benefits” or likely gains, use power words that sell, and make sure you make these power words bold and underlined.

Below is an example of promotional email trying to sell an affiliate product that teaches people how to make money from promoting other people’s products on the internet. The message has in some way deployed some of the aforementioned tips and strategies:

Subject: How Would You Like Creating A Perfect Income Stream?

Hello Friend!

I’m William Terry, an internet Marketing Entrepreneur. I have made quite a fortune promoting other people’s products on the internet without spending a dime on advertisements, and still earn far much more than those who advertise! In fact, this is the only thing I do for a living!

A few years ago, I tried my hands on a number of online “businesses” – Forex Trading, Adsense, HYIPs, Website Flipping, Network Marketing, Blogging, PPC Marketing, Fixed Odds Betting, etc – but got my fingers burnt. Suffering from bankruptcy, I desperately searched for a way out but all to no avail until I came across what I’m about to reveal to you.

I am happy to reveal to you these proven and tested methods to stop you from going through the kind of pain I went through before discovering the jackpot!

Proven and Tested – Has worked for everyone, both newbies and oldsters, and will definitely work for you.

Easy – These methods are really quite simple and easy to use. You don’t have to be a computer guru to use them.

Little or Zero-Startup – You only need just a little or even zero startup capital to start!

Click Here XXXXX To Learn More or Order.

You will be so glad with the results you will get!

You will notice that the above promotional message seemed so simple on the surface, but it may do well to compel the prospect to carry out the action you want him or her to do because it pointed out the pains previously incurred and the pains to avoid, then pin-pointed the pleasure (or benefits) to gain.

Now, just imagine if there are 1,000,000 total members in all the groups you have joined; and after receiving your promotional email only 1% of them clicked on the affiliate link in your email, meaning you are going to have 10,000 visits through your affiliate link to the affiliate sales page. The 10,000 visits you get won’t all translate into sales or conversion. But, even if just only 1% of the 10,000 visits convert into sales you would still get 100 sales from your affiliate link which will no doubt earn you substantial amount of commissions for free – no advertisement costs or overheads.

Final words of advice
Email marketing is directly marketing a commercial message to a group of people using electronic mail-email. In its broadest sense, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing. Therefore, using online groups to market can also be considered as email marketing. The tips and strategies in this short report can also be applied in other forms of email marketing. So also, the challenges in email marketing are also the challenges that must be met in online group marketing in order to achieve a desired level of success. The three major challenges are:

- Getting your email into your audience’s inbox.
- Getting the recipient to open your email.
- Getting the recipient to act on your email.

Email marketing and online groups when used as an email marketing system are some of the fastest, easiest methods of getting your ads out to potential prospects, but you need to use them effectively to convert the ad views to sales. If you can meet the three aforementioned challenges by following the tips and strategies in this special report religiously, you are very much likely to achieve desirable results in your campaigns. However, if you don’t follow these tips and strategies rightly, your email ads may just end up being deleted by your potential prospects.

5 TOP AFFILIATE NETWORKS TO GET YOU STARTED IN AFFILIATE MARKETING ON ALMOST ZERO STARTUP COST

Affiliate Marketing is a business model that allows you to receive a commission for generating a transaction, such as a sale or lead, for a merchant that you are promoting. The merchant site provides its ads or affiliate links to you and assigns a commission for each task it wants to accomplish. As an affiliate you place these links or ads on your website, or blog, or in such places like email contents, search listings, articles, e-books, internet forum postings and so on. Whenever a visitor uses any of these links to generate an action on the merchant’s site, the transaction is tracked online and you get paid a commission for that transaction if the visitor carries out the desired action.

To get yourself started in Affiliate Marketing on almost zero start-up cost you will need to sign up with one or a couple of Affiliate Networks. Affiliate Networks are loaded with a list of affiliate products/programs that you can promote to earn commissions. The main convenience an Affiliate Network has over independent affiliate programs is that you only need to log into one place to see the statistics for the numerous programs you are promoting within that network.

More also, Affiliate Networks usually have more integrity when it comes to paying you your commissions. They usually pay you on time and don’t usually default in their payment of commissions. The independent sites on the other hand have had reported cases of not paying their affiliates after generating the required outcomes.

Furthermore, most Affiliate Networks combine all your commissions of the numerous programs or products you are promoting onto one check (cheque) whenever your commissions accumulated reach the minimum payout threshold. You don’t have to be striving to get checks (cheques) from different sources, which may be difficult and time consuming.

There are tons of Affiliate Networks but I highly recommended the following places, particularly www.clickbank.com and www.cj.com. Clickbank is by far the easiest for Beginner Affiliates, however the rest are equally good.
1. Clickbankhttp://www.clickbank.com : is a leader in the Affiliate network industry with over 11,000 merchants. You get paid commissions ranging from 5% to 75%. The products on Clickbank are basically digital or downloadable products, so the merchants can afford to offer very high commission for each sale you generate. Downloadable or digital products like e-books, e-newsletters, e-zine, e-courses, music, games, softwares, videos and so on can be created with little or almost no money. They can be reproduced in any quantity – it is as simple as copying a file. Even if the merchant sells a million copies, production costs stays at zero; hence, Clickbank merchants can afford to pay very high commissions.

Clickbank programs are mainly CPS (cost per sale), meaning you only earn a commission if the visitor completes a sale on the merchant site you direct him/her to. They have Real-Time statistics and conversion tracking that is patent pending. People don’t usually buy products the first time they visit a merchant’s website. It often takes some days for the purchases to start. However, Clickbank places a cookie in the visitor’s computer for 90 days so that you will get credit for the sales.

With Clickbank you get paid every two weeks once your commissions reach your selected minimum payout threshold. No website is required to join Clickbank (meaning you can register with Clickbank even without having a website of your own.).

2. Commission Junctionhttp://www.cj.com : is a ‘top dog’ in the Affiliate Network industry. In a nutshell, they are massive. There are thousands upon thousands of merchants or affiliate programs to choose from within this network. They offer CPM (which means getting paid for impression for putting a pop-up or banner ad on your site); CPC (Cost Per Click, where you earn commission when a visitor goes to your website and clicks on any of your affiliate links); CPL (Cost Per Lead, where you earn commission for every visitor you lead to the merchant’s site even if they don’t buy anything!); and CPA (Cost Per Action, which means the same thing as Cost Per Sale, where you get paid if the visitor completes a purchase on the merchant’s site). To find CPL programs on this network, simply conduct a search for ‘Advertisers’ using a single word ‘lead’ on their website.

Commission Junction have real-time statistics and a 2-tier commission program in place. You get paid monthly as long as your commissions accumulated reach their $25 minimum payout threshold. A website is required to join but you can join using a free blog, which you can set up at places like http://www.blogger.com or http://www.squidoo.com.

3. Linksharehttp://www.linkshare.com : this is also a huge Affiliate Network- somewhat similar to Commission Junction. You get paid commissions by CPL and CPA. They also have a 2-tier commission structure.

You can log onto the following link to locate CPL (Cost Per Lead or Pay Per Lead) programs on Linkshare:
http://alogin.linksynergy.com/php-bin/affiliate/join/scate.shtml?cate_id=-1
Press CTRL-F on your keyboard to get a search box. Type ‘flat fee’ into the search box to conduct your search for the lucrative pay-per-lead affiliate programs on this network.

4. Befree – http://www.reporting.net : This is an Affiliate network that has some of the largest clients on the internet. BeFree offers a commission for referrals from webmasters – you receive a commission for every signup. They offer CPS and CPL type of programs with multi-tier commission. BeFree also has a large number of merchants in their network. They are into a partnership with Commission Junction. A website is also required to join.

If you wish to promote CPL programs on BeFree, go to the search page of their website and use the drop down menu under ‘Commission Method’ to select ‘cost per lead’. Leave all other options to their default positions, and then click on the search button to get a list of BeFree merchants offering CPL programs.

5. Paydotcom – http://www.paydotcom.com : This network is somewhat similar to Clickbank. On the Paydotcom network you will find merchants even paying higher commissions than those obtainable on Clickbank! Paydotcom has lots of e-books and physical products. You get paid by PayPal or check (cheque). Like Clickbank, no website is required to join.

Affiliate Networks like Clickbank and Commission Junction make the payment of commissions to affiliates without authorization from the merchants. So you don’t have to worry whether the merchant will pay or not. However, with Paydotcom the merchant makes the decision to pay the affiliates and has to authorize Paydotcom to do so. This is the downside of working with Paydotcom.

In conclusion, there are many other decent Affiliate Networks out there; particularly ClickXchange.com, ClixGalore.com, ShareASale.com and WebSponsors.com but I found the 5 aforementioned ones to be the best places for you to get started as an Affiliate marketer.

NOTE:
Cost Per Action (CPA) – Advertiser/Merchant pays each time a visitor clicks on an ad, and takes some sort of action, whether it is a lead or sale.

Cost Per Click (CPC) – Advertiser/Merchant pays each time a visitor clicks on an ad. Clicks can be generated through PPC (Pay-Per-Click) Search Engine banners, text links, popups, other graphics, etc.

Cost Per Lead (CPL) – Advertiser/Merchant pays each time a visitor clicks on an ad, and fills out a signup form for something “free”. The purpose of this (for the Advertiser/Merchant) is to build a list of potential customers whom the Advertiser/Merchant can market to, over and over again.

Cost Per Impressions (CPM) – Advertiser/Merchant pays for ads viewed, every time the ads are viewed a certain number of times. For example in the case of Cost Per 1,000 Impressions, the Advertiser/Merchant pays for every 1,000 ads viewed. This includes banners and other size graphics. Additionally, this is how many emails and newsletters are sold (per 1,000 people the email is sent to).

Cost Per Sale (CPS) – Advertiser/Merchant pays an affiliate a percentage or fixed fee for a sale of a product or service, if the customer who made the purchase was referred to the Merchant’s site by the Affiliate.

‘YAHOO YAHOO’ ASIDE, NIGERIANS ARE MAKING GOOD MONEY ONLINE

By: Temitayo Famutumi

Some 15 years ago, making money online was largely synonymous with advance fee fraud, popularly called yahoo yahoo in Nigeria. That was when the Internet revolution was just taking shape in the country, which was also just getting off the hook of military juntas that thrived on trampling on freedom of information.
While many people could not yet appreciate what the Internet and accompanying social media trends stood for, most of the few that first caught the bug exploited it to dupe unsuspecting folks, especially foreigners. Indeed, that is the time the notorious and ever-recurring letter in which an online conman (or woman), who claims he is stranded in some foreign country or has problems accessing a huge fund, was first composed. A lot of water has passed under the bridge since, but some people have also proved that Nigerians too know how to make the best of the social media.
It does not matter if some of them got online by accident. The fact is that from their different professional and academic backgrounds, they have entrenched themselves, deploying the digital phenomenon to various businesses. Whether it is an Anderson Uvie-Emegbo that has abandoned medicine for online entrepreneurship, or Nairaland founder, Seun Osewa, who was pushed out of the university by an accident, the guys got to the Internet ‘on time’, and have practically become landlords, making good money in transparent ways.
Curiously, more than half of those our correspondent contacted for an interview were not forthcoming. While some, including Linda Ikeji of the Lindaikejiblog fame, repeatedly declined to grant the correspondent audience, Bellanaija founder, Uche Pedro, appeared too shy to talk about herself and business – despite the fact that they are often eager to sell other people to the world.

• Bella Naija
She is popularly, called Bella Naija but her name is Uche Pedro (formerly Eze). She appears to be the most influential blogger in the country, with even most of her other successful counterparts attributing their in-road into the world of blogging to their visit to bellanaija.com.
For instance, in an interview, ace blogger, Ladun Liadi, says she drew her inspiration to become a blogger from Bella Naija.
Liadi says, “One day, I was with my friend who is a radio presenter and he said, ‘Ladun, why don’t you start a blog? You have so many things going on for you.’ I didn’t really want to, because I felt owning a blog was personal (as it was meant to be about the person’s daily activities) and not meant for reporting. But he told me I was wrong and gave me a blog address to check out. It was Bella Naija. And that was how I started my own blog too.”
Also, celebrated blogger, Linda Ikeji, in an interview published on bellanaija.com, also explains that she discovered what was called blogging after visiting bellanaija.com.
Bellanaija.com, which was formally hosted on blogspot.com as bellanaija.blogspot.com, started off as a small entertainment and pop culture portal. Publishing Nigerian celebrity, fashion and lifestyle news, the blog has grown to attract over one million hit per month across the continent.
Apart from fetching Pedro cool cash, her blog success has taken her to places. She has featured in many elite celebrity talk shows. One of such is the Oprah Winfrey Show, which is the highest-rated talk show in American television history.
In an interview she granted to Cable News Network’s Isha Sesay in Nigeria, Pedro, who studied in a Canadian University, said she started blogging after being bored while on a two-week holiday in Nigeria.
“In 2006 when I just graduated from the university. I had two weeks off before starting my first job. I had always loved Nigeria and Africa but I was just bored. But I realised the fashion and entertainment industries were more vibrant and more people were involved in politics, business and it was so encouraging.
“I was like: Let me just start something that will sort of represent these and it has grown in leaps and bounds since then.”

• Seun Osewa
Interestingly, Seun Osewa, the brain behind popular online forum, nairaland, is, conventionally speaking, a drop-out. After spending three years at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, where he was studying Electrical Electronics, he, according to him, decided to go the way of super rich Bill Gates, chairman of Microsoft, the world’s largest personal-computer software company. He also knows the history of founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg; and Steve Jobs – the late co-founder of Apple Inc., who also dropped out of school at one time or the other.
In an online interview with our correspondent, Osewa, however, responded to just two out of the questions asked him.
He notes, “I studied Electronics & Electrical Engineering at OAU with good grades for five semesters. But then I had a little injury, which eventually caused me to crash out. I’m a 30-year-old Yoruba man raised in a small town in Ogun State. I started Nairaland eight years and some days ago.”
Asked to speak on what injury he sustained and how he had taken other educational opportunities after “crashing out,” Osewa said, “ Well, it’s personal. Thanks for the understanding.” Subsequent reminders sent by e-mail for him to answer the other questions were not replied.
Nairaland, which claims to have over one million registered users, and over 35 million page views monthly, was last month ranked the most visited website in Africa by alexa.com, a US-based firm that provides web traffic data.
According to reports, the journey of Nairaland began in 2004, when Osewa started “mobilenigeria”, a forum to cover the emerging GSM industry at that time. However, it was transformed in March 2005 to what is now known as nairaland. Interestingly, in an interview granted to dipotepede.org, Osewa was quoted as saying that all the business projects he embarked on before Nairaland were failures, except the one (mobilenigeria) that became Nairaland.
He notes,, “My web hosting business failed after just three months because I ran out of money, while I couldn’t execute many other projects I researched due to shyness and lack of capital. My blogs and the mobile phone forum that preceded nairaland were successful but not profitable. However, it was on that foundation that nairaland was built.”

• Dr. Anderson Uvie-Emegbo
Dr. Anderson Uvie-Emego is a graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State. He abandoned a medical job to pursue a career in digital technology. Today he is a household name in Africa not as a medical doctor but as a digital media expert.
Uvie-Emegbo now has multiple streams of income. Apart from earning what can be described as a descent income from his firm, Dymore Vision Consulting Ltd, where he is the managing director, he teaches post-graduate students as an Adjunct Faculty at the School of Media & Communication, Pan African University, Lagos and Strathmore Business School, Kenya.
“I teach, consult, implement and publish all things digital. I consult across Africa,” he says.
On how he abandoned medicine and surgery for the digital media, he says, “No matter how hard I tried to focus on medicine, I kept developing my skills in web strategy and project management. Eventually in 2007 after three years and five months of practice, it was clear that I had to make a career change. I formally left medical practice on June 28, 2007. It is a privilege to be doing what I do now. As a medical doctor, my role was to help people stay healthy. Similarly, as a digital media consultant, I enable individuals and organisations stay competitively healthy – creating sustainable, superior corporate performance, using a digital approach. In both situations, I start with the diagnosis and end with solutions that make all parties satisfied.”

• Linda Ikeji
Ex-model-turned blogger, Linda Ikeji, has no doubt joined the millionaire club. The 2004 English Language graduate of the University of Lagos confirmed her status as a successful blogger recently when she bought herself a 2011 model Infiniti FX 35 Sport Utility Vehicle, reportedly for N8m.
Announcing the purchase of the SUV on her blog, Ikeji says she had lost count of the businesses she had laid her hand on without success before blogging paid off.
She notes, “By this time two years ago, I didn’t have much but I never stopped believing in myself and I never stopped working hard. I can’t even begin to count how many businesses I put my hands into before one paid off – blogging!
“I told myself that I would make it in this life one day as my own woman and on my own terms, that no man will ever take away my dignity and I did it. So can you! Yes, you! You have the power! And with God on your side, you are unstoppable!”
She started modelling in 1998 and, in 2004, set up a modelling agency and event management company, Blackdove Communications. Ikeji, 32, quit modelling for blogging in 2007. The competition in the modelling industry, which has culminated in the proliferation of unregistered modelling agencies that go about recruiting pretty girls and getting them jobs without proper accreditation, might have propelled her to quit the field.

• Omoyele Sowore
The former President of the Students’ Union of the University of Lagos, Omoyele Sowore, started Sahara Reporters in 2006 from his base in New York, United States.
In an interview with the Sun Newspaper, United Kingdom, he says he does not operate his news website with any expensive office furniture or high-end c*m high-priced off-the-shelf devices. He explains that at some point he equipped his car with gadgets for-on-the go reporting but adds that he now operates a mobile office.
“With little more than a few cell phones, an Apple computer, and the wonders of the Internet, I can do what I have to do.
He did not study communication, but he says his experience as a student union leader, which made him a mass communicator of some sorts, spurred him to launch the online platform which enables people to report themselves.
Sowore, who now makes good money from the website especially through adverts, says he started out cheaply.
“When I started, it was very cheap. I was hosting Sahara Reporters at the rate of US$35 per month when I started. It didn’t cost me much to actually have an online presence.
“Talking transparently, we have been making money. There is what they call Google Adsense, which is the most democratic way of participating in advertising. When I started, I used to make 50 dollars every month. Over time, we began to make a lot more money because it is driven by traffic in usage and patronage of the website.”
In an online interview with our correspondent, Sowore stresses that what gives him fulfilment most is the fact that he Saharareporters identifies with the search for positive change in the society. He indirectly affirms that it has also been success in terms of financial rewards.
But for other people, especially young Nigerians, who may want to explore citizen journalism, he says, “Unemployed Nigerian graduates might be able to eke out a living through citizen journalism but I couldn’t tell them how. I could only advise people to pursue their dreams passionately. And most important is that they should be engaged in the pursuit of freedom for themselves and freedom for all. I think the larger question for Africans-employed, underemployed and unemployed is to determine, very quickly, how long they will continue to endure the unwarranted and brazen r*pe of the dignity of the African person by a tiny clique of corrupt and gluttonous but highly incompetent rogues disguised as leaders.”

• Ladun Liadi
Oladunni Liadi is the name behind the popular blog, ladunliadi.blogspot.com. Liadi, who hails from Ijebu-Mushin, Ogun State, abandoned Microbiology, which she studied at the University of Lagos for blogging.
Confirming the current fact that making money online is a reality, Liaidi says, “It (blogging) has been very profitable. My eyes are closed to any other business for now.”
She started out in the world of blogging in August 2010, after a friend spoke to her about the opportunities which abound in it. After visiting a handful of blogs being run by Nigerians then, Liadi says she decided to leverage her journalism instinct and ventured into blogging.
But while starting out she also faced the teething problems of low blog traffic, which new bloggers complain about. Her low blog traffic, which for some months, was further compounded by incessant outage, andpoor Internet connectivity. But she refused to give up on her new found profession.
She says, “At first, I didn’t know comments meant a thing. For the first few months I didn’t get comments and later on they started coming. But now, I get over 100,000 page views per day.
“Internet connectivity and electricity are still major problems. Internet connectivity is an issue for me. I have almost all the Internet modems you can think of, in case one doesn’t work, another will. While PHCN never ceases to disappoint one, the issue of electricity is minimal because there is an alternative which is fueling the generator.”
Liadi, who is in her 20s, says she operates from her home in Lagos or anywhere she finds herself and has a few people working with her on part time basis.
“For now, I don’t have anybody working for me on full time basis. But I have a few people who attend some events for me; I just pay them per event. I solely run the blog myself,” she explains, adding that blogging is fun.
“It has opened doors for me in a lot of ways. A lot of people now know Ladun Liadi, unlike before. I am even moving a step further to launch an online entertainment magazine covering all events and reporting all the latest news in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

Along the line, he has also developed several versions of his proprietary computer-based testing engine which he calls ‘The Face of Testing.’
He says, “The world has largely witnessed a sweeping revolution in the education sector but, sadly, we have been left behind. But we are offering a better alternative to the conventional Paper To Pen Testing method.”

• Kunle Adeyeri
Kunle Adeyeri is an online forex trader and trainer. The graduate of Microbiology from the University of Lagos started his firm, Kards Nigeria Limited, in 1996 after a stint at a computing firm between 1991 and 1995.
“I worked as a Senior Administrative Officer at a computer firm but in 1996, I started my own firm where I major in computer-based analysis. In 2007, I ventured into online forex trading. My job does not basically require many personnel but I have two employees on my pay roll,” Adeyeri says.

• Olori Super Gal
Oluwatosin Ajibade’s active involvement with Facebook as a means of sharing information to her friends paid off in 2010. A friend who regularly benefits from the updates talked to her about blogging as a means of sharing those pieces of information to the larger populace while still making some money.
Ajibade, the blogger behind olorisupergal.com says, “I didn’t join any group to become a blogger. I remember I was in the habit of using my Facebook account to share information especially entertainment news.
“My friend saw what I used to do back then on Facebook and he introduced me to the bigger platform – blogging. Since then it has been fun. I never know blogging is another form of sharing one’s ideas and creativity. I started on my own after he (friend) introduced it to me in 2010. Then, I started blogging on February 8, 2010.
Ajibade, a graduate of Accounting from Lagos State University, says the path she took to blog success was bumpy as she experienced low blog traffic for a whole year. According to her, she was forced to visit several online portals to acquire knowledge about blogging.

How To Open A Domiciliary Account in Nigeria To Cash Your Online Payments

If you participate in online income earning projects like free online paid surveys, Internet and affiliate marketing, Google Adsense, blogging, online article writing jobs, Online Forex trading and so on; you’ll need a domiciliary account here in Nigeria to enable you cash your foreign currency denominated checks (cheques) or receive money from people outside the shores of Nigeria.

But what is a domiciliary account? A domiciliary account is a special type of account in foreign currency such as US Dollars or UK pounds opened in a home bank that allows you to make international bulk expense in form of bank wire transfer for services or goods online. A domiciliary account is also an account which allows you to be paid in any foreign currency of your choice. Any earnings or proceeds from your online business transactions will be deposited directly or through a check (cheque) issued in your name which is payable into a domiciliary account. With the frequency at which businesses are being run online these days, a domiciliary account is highly necessary to enable you cash the money you’ll make from your online projects. Foreign cheques and drafts from a foreign land can only be paid into a domiciliary account. Most commercial banks in Nigeria usually use 15 working days to clear your check (cheque) and credit your account with your money but in some cases it may take up to 21 working days.

A domiciliary account can be setup with any bank here in the country, usually in different currencies, such as the US Dollar, Euro, or the UK Pounds Sterling. This will enable the owner of the domiciliary account to receive any foreign currency directly into his bank account without having to convert it into the local currency. But there are usually different account numbers given with respect to each currency.

Besides using a domiciliary account for doing business online, it is also quite easier to send money directly into the bank account of any relative outside the shores of one’s own country if you operate a domiciliary account. Only a token amount of money is charged in most cases. Owning a domiciliary account also helps when travelling abroad, as one can withdraw in the currency of the country where one finds his or herself.
